Do you feel guilty if you are not working on something?

Do you find it difficult to detach from your work?

Is work preventing you from quality time with significant people in your life (partner, children, close friends etc)?

If the answer is yes for you then you be a workaholic.

Not many people are talking about it but workaholism is an addiction and like most other addictions, it can have many emotional and physical health effects and cause relationship challenges. 

In a recent poll done on Linkedin, workaholism was the #1 legal addiction amongst professionals. Second was Netflix and Social Media addiction closely followed by Alcoholism. A distant last was 'Relationships' but I strongly think that if I had extended this option to include sex and porn the numbers would have been higher.

Interestingly there is a difference between working long hours and being a workaholic.

Have you ever heard statements like 'Mindset is Everything', '80% of Success is Mindset and 20% is Strategy' and 'Mindset is what separates the Best from the Rest'?

Not speaking up in meetings because you are afraid you might say something 'wrong'/'stupid' in front of your colleagues?

Staying in a job you hate because you are afraid to fail and only to hear from your family/colleagues 'I told you should have stayed in your job and be safe'?

What is procrastination? Procrastination is a PROTECTIVE PATTERN that occurs at the nervous system level that tries to protect YOU from IMPORTANT things that it is not familiar with.

One of the roles of the nervous system is to protect YOU and keep YOU alive and when YOU are about to do something that it is unfamiliar with or you had a previous bad experience with, it is going to stop YOU.

Leaders Need to Slow Down to Speed Up

But what exactly does this mean?

The classical Greek philosopher Aristotle said: ‘Nature requires us not only to be able to work well, but also to idle well.’ Constantly pushing ourselves to achieve against all the odds offers no respite for reflection. We need downtime to allow insight to flower.

Deliberately slowing down requires you to actually schedule time to slow down.

Slowing down may take several forms but the most important thing is to be deliberate about it and schedule time to slow down. Slowing down can/should involve some of the following:

  • Better quality and more sleep.
  • Mindfullness
  • Meditation
  • Light exercise like yoga, cycling, etc

Did you know at internet usage is up 50% since the start of this pandemic?

Did you know that many entrepreneurs are now pivoting their business by going online?

Did you know that while going online is a good strategy it is not the best strategy?

The effect of so many people going online is that it now makes the internet and social media a very crowded market place. With such a crowded marketplace, it is more difficult for entrepreneurs to stand out.

While the pandemic has forced many entrepreneurs into survival mode and going online was how they pivoted, now might be the time to relook your strategy all together.

The Truth About Mid-Life Crisis

Did you know that most people think that a mid-life crisis is due to hormonal and other chemical changes in the body?

How to manage Distractions while working from home.

 

Are you having difficulty managing distractions (kids, spouse, parents etc) while working from home?

Here are a few tips that will help you to manage/eliminate distractions so that you can be more productive and sane.

1) Work in 45 mins to 1 hour spurts.

2) Discuss your schedule with the people in your schedule

3) Remove the distractions of notifications from email, social media, whats app etc
