Which of these three paths are you on?
This article is the third in a series articles. It would be very useful to read the first two articles to understand the context of this article and to maximise any benefit that you may receive from it 1)- https://www.shaneram.com/blog/the-tale-of-two-mountains and 2) https://www.shaneram.com/blog/your-mission-should-you-choose-to-accept-it
Are you in Denial that there is a second mountain of purpose, impact, fulfilment etc?
Have you Resigned to the fact that you will continue to struggle for the rest of your life living on the first mountain?
Or have you already decided to leave the first mountain and climb the second and live a life of Purpose, Impact and Fulfilment?
There are three usual paths that people take when they realise that they were climbing the wrong mountain - Denial, Resignation or Purpose.
Denial - These people act as if they don't know that the second mountain exists. To fill the hole, they keep up...
Your mission should YOU choose to accept it is to live a life of Significance, build and grow your business that replaces your income plus have more meaning, impact and purpose while having more free time for the people and things your enjoy.
Have you ever wanted wanted to start your business but feel stuck?
Are you well qualified, but not being paid what you are worth?
Is procrastination and fear of not being able to replace your income keeping you back?
I understand, I have been there. But I was able to get to the Root Cause of what was holding me back for so long and develop a business and financial model that brings in the income to take care of my family, take great vacations and other experiences and more importantly give me the time freedom to be there for my daughters, family and golf!
From her birth, I was able to prepare my daughter's meals...
It was 2008 and the global economy crashed and I was in the best position, or so I thought.
I got to keep my job, my pay, my company paid for Benz, my benefits and Only show up when there was work - SWEET. I played golf when there was no work. One day, I teed it up and boom, down the middle with my first drive. Happy with myself and walking to play my second shot, a voice in my head said 'This is not it, You were meant to do more with your life, this may be someone else's dream life but not yours. You are meant to create more impact, touch more lives, do more with your successes and life'.
The First Mountain
Growing up in poverty, illiteracy and domestic violence, I was determined to be a success. Like most people, success was defined by career, financial, material and social status. So I set off to climb the success mountain, the mountain of career growth, financial and material gains and to be seen as someone successful to others.
The foundation of this success was 'getting a...
Did you know most people, regardless of their position or stature have one problem or another?
Did you know the Root Cause is almost always the same?
Did you know that most of us have suffered some form of emotional trauma in our lives?
Imagine having a special formula that can be used over and over for most situations and challenges?
You don't need to Imagine it : Path To Freedom is a proven process to get to the root cause of any problem/challenge you may have.
I have coached senior officials in the United Nations, CEOs, Executives and even a Senator and they all have one thing in common, an incident (What we call the Original Sensitising Event) which cause some form of emotional trauma to which they form a Belief and they Act based on the Belief.
Emotional Trauma does not have to be as bad as the word 'trauma' suggests. A kid being left back at school with all the other children gone home can be trauma for the child and they may form a BELIEF like 'I am not good enough' to be...
Did you realise that half the year is gone?
Have you lost track of your 2018 goals?
Still want to hit them before the year is over?
Hopefully your answer is yes. If it's NO, then don't bother reading the rest of this article.
First off, you need to ensure that your goal(s) meets the 10 Critical Elements of a Properly Set Goal and I have a free course on that and you can access it here.
The next step is to go deeper into your WHY behind your goals. Wait, wait, I know you must have heard about the importance of your WHY before but this what I am about to share with you is critical because it is not just more information, it is an actual exercise that will really get to the root of WHY you want the goals you have created.
Can your WHY go 7 levels deep?
Essentially, if your WHY cannot go 7 Levels Deep then it would be easy to quit.
I have to warn you that the exercise is very repetitive but extremely powerful so have some patience and give it your all.
You need to have your goal(s)...
Are you being paid what you are worth?
Did you know that many years of earning less than you are worth can affect your confidence?
I was speaking with Kelly, a professional in the Finance and Auditing field and she wanted to wanted to start her own business. Kelly's biggest fear was about being able to pay her mortgage.
This is quite understandable but maybe an unrealistic fear.
She had previously worked at a large globally recognised auditing company and did a very good job. The company would bill the clients at approximately US$1,000 per hour for the work that Kelly did. She of course was paid only a fraction of this.
But is Kelly worth $1,000 per hour?
I would say she is.
Kelly moved on from that company and now works for another institution as an auditor. She is still only paid a fraction of what she is worth, approximately US$40 an hour
If Kelly were to start her own business and even charge quarter ($250 per hour) of what her big company charged for their...
Are you a professional with as least 10 years experience?
Are you in an organisation that does not value your knowledge and experience?
Are you in an organisation that does not pay you as well as your qualifications and experience warrant?
Do you prefer Diamonds or Greener Grass?
I see many qualified and experienced professionals who are highly under paid and overworked.
I also see many of these professionals looking for other jobs hoping that the GRASS IS GREENER somewhere else. Hoping that they get a better boss, a better company culture and better pay and benefits.
While there may be better pay and benefits, it is very rare that one will find great leadership and great culture.
How can I say that? Well the latest research shows that the #1 Challenge for many learning and development departments is still leadership and the #1 reason why people leave organisations is that they leave bad bosses.
So the Grass is not really greener on the other side.
I suggest that you go for diamonds...
Do you realise that life and business are changing right before your eyes?
Are you fully embracing the change or have you turned a blind eye hoping that they will go away and only be temporary?
Is your job safe?
We saw what the internet brought and while your job may not have become obsolete because of it, many other jobs did.
What will the growth of artificial intelligence and blockchain technology do to your industry and job? Are you prepared?
What's actually happening is this, the industrial revolution is fading. The 80 year long run that brought ever-increasing productivity (and along with it, well-paying jobs for an ever-expanding middle class) is ending.
People who thought they had a valuable skill or degree have discovered that being an anonymous middleman doesn't guarantee job security.
Individuals who were trained to comply and follow instructions have discovered that the deal is over... and it isn't their fault, because they've always done what they were told.
What to do when things are not going your way?
Here are 5 steps that you can use to turn your year around.
1) Accept where you are. Don't get down on yourself for not hitting your targets, that does not help anyone. Just accept where you are today and make a commitment to turning things around.
2) Accept that you need to change something. It you are not having the results that you thought you would thats just feedback that you need to make some changes.
3) Identify what needs to change. This is very hard for us to do by ourselves because we are not able to see ourselves very objectively. You might need to change a strategy but many times its something that you need to change internally.
4) Be humble - know that you cannot know everything and sometimes you may not be able to identify what changes you need to make.
5) Ask for help - too often we want to do everything by ourselves but all successful people in the world attribute their success to having good people around be it a...
August 2016 -
Would you like to achieve a big goal? Achieving big goals is a science. I’m not talking about losing 10 pounds or cleaning out the attic by the end of the month. A big goal is losing 50 pounds or doubling your income.
The more I delve and play around with the Science of goal setting and achievement the more I refine my programs and best of all my clients get to benefit from it. My passion is impacting lives and speaking in front of large audiences is one thing I enjoy and want to do more off.
I received a book from a keynote speaker – for free (there is also a science of asking and receiving) and was reading his vivid account of his experience of speaking at an event in Dubai.
I connected with this vision and I also set a vision/goal to speak in one of the most spectacular places on the planet. I knew I had to take action for my vision to become a reality so I jumped online to check for conferences in HR, where I have expert knowledge. Most all of the...
