Everyone Has Problems, Some People are Just Better ..............

Did you know most people, regardless of their position or stature have one problem or another?

Did you know the Root Cause is almost always the same?

Did you know that most of us have suffered some form of emotional trauma in our lives?

I have coached senior officials in the United Nations, CEOs, Executives and even a Senator and they all have one thing in common, an incident (What we call the Original Sensitising Event) which cause some form of emotional trauma to which they form a Belief and they Act based on the Belief.

Emotional Trauma does not have to be as bad as the word 'trauma' suggests. A kid being left back at school with all the other children gone home can be trauma for the child and they may form a BELIEF like 'I am not good enough' to be picked up like all the other kids. If someone does not BELIEVE that they are good enough they may not attempt doing many things and others may call them lazy.

Or a child whose parent(s) disapproved of their grades in school or choice of expression can cause emotional trauma for the child because the child does not want to disappoint their parents and they may feel dejected.

Of course the emotional trauma could be much worse if there is verbal, physical and sexual abuse.

The anatomy of Transformation:

  1. Limiting Behaviours/Actions - do you procrastinate? Are you playing small? Are you too worried about what people think about you? Are you a perfectionist? Do you lack self confidence? Do you hold back love? Do you medical challenges? These are some of the behaviours exhibited by people who simply are not performing at their optimal potential.
  2. Stories - just before someone procrastinates for example, they tell themselves a STORY. Maybe something like 'suppose I fail', 'what if it does not work out', 'what if I make a mistake and people think lowly of me' etc etc. We all have stories and we act based on the STORIES.
  3. Emotions - have you ever heard the saying 'we are all emotional beings'? This usually translates to our emotions drive us. It means that our emotions dictate our behaviour. That is correct, but the EMOTION is what causes us to create a STORY before we act. For example, someone who is FEARFUL (emotion) might create a STORY like 'if I attempt this thing I might fail and people will consider me a failure'. This STORY will likely cause the person to procrastinate.
  4. Beliefs - have you ever noticed that 2 persons may have 2 different reactions to the same event? Why is that? Its because they have different belief systems. If someone believes that they are great or awesome they will have a different reaction to a 'failed event' (like not passing an exam) from someone who might believe that they are not good enough or they are doomed for failure or they won't amount to much in life.
  5. Original Sensitising Event - do you think babies have negative beliefs about themselves? Do you think that they believe that they amount to nothing? Of course not! So where did it all go wrong? Something happened, what we call an Original Sensitising Event, to cause the child/adult to believe that they are not good enough. I want to stress that you can have Original Sensitising Event in adulthood - maybe a failed marriage (OSI) might cause you to have a BELIEF that you are not good at relationships that might cause anxiety and fear (EMOTION) if they meet someone new which might cause them to make up a STORY like 'this relationship might turn out like the last one' and they may not want to go out on a date or even communicate with the person.
