5 Steps To End Procrastination

Mar 04, 2021

'It's better to start next month'.

'The economy is bad so now is not the right time'.

'When the kids are finished with school I will start'.

Have you ever said any of these or similar things to yourself?

Do you want to stop procrastinating and achieve the important things in life and career?

What is procrastination? Procrastination is a PROTECTIVE PATTERN that occurs at the nervous system level that tries to protect YOU from IMPORTANT things that it is not familiar with.

One of the roles of the nervous system is to protect YOU and keep YOU alive and when YOU are about to do something that it is unfamiliar with or you had a previous bad experience with, it is going to stop YOU.

How does procrastination work?

  • When YOU are about to do something new, something that is going to be better for you, your life, your career, your business your nervous system is unfamiliar with this 'new' thing and it creates an emotional reaction, normally FEAR.
  • From this FEAR we begin to make up STORIES like, 'It's better to start next month', 'the economy is bad so now is not the right time', 'when the kids are finished with school I will start', etc etc.
  • You convince yourself that the STORY is true and then you DON'T ACT.

One good aspect of procrastination is that it shows what is important for you to do. We don't procrastinate on unimportant things!

The 5 Steps To End Procrastination:

  1. Catch when You are procrastinating. Awareness is critical and if it is difficult to do on your own, get an accountability partner like a mentor or coach.
  2. Identify the STORY/THOUGHTs that YOU are telling yourself. Very important to be honest and write these down as it is really our thoughts that causes procrastination.
  3. Question whether the STORIES are true or rational. 95% of the times it would be untrue and irrational. It would be PROTECTIVE. This is the tough part because your mind will work very hard to convince yourself that the story is true and rational. An accountability partner like a mentor or coach would be very useful here.
  4. Choose a POWERFUL thought or STORY. Examples 'Now is always the best time to start', 'I can learn what it takes to be successful at this', 'I can get help from other people who has been successful at this', 'when I do this my life will go to the next level', 'my happiness is more important than this stressful job' etc.
  5. ACT. Take action instantaneously!

The trick is really switching from a PROTECTIVE THOUGHT to a POWERFUL one. It is important to practice this process regularly and what will happen is that new neurological pathways will develop in relation to doing 'new' things and make the nervous system feel comfortable about doing new things.

This one hour training will help you to get to the Root Cause of why your are procrastinating and lead to rapid transformation.
